This course will give you the skills you need to understand complex data in charts, diagrams and line graphs. You’ll learn how to collect your own data and how to present it in charts and graphs for other people to use.
The course begins by explaining the important difference between discrete data and continuous data. Then you’ll learn how to interpret the information on more complex data display mechanisms such as two-way tables, dual bar charts and continuous bar charts. You’ll be shown how to use a data capture sheet to collect information in an organised way and how to use a spreadsheet programme to display your findings. And finally, you’ll learn all about averages and the formulae you need to calculate mean, median, mode, range and frequency distribution.
As you move through the course, mini tests let you check that you’ve understood the learning and give you the chance to practise your new data skills in realistic, everyday situations.
After finishing this course you will be able to:
• Find information from discrete data tables, continuous data tables and two-way tables
• Collect data and draw dual bar charts, continuous bar charts and multiple line graphs
• Understand scales and conversion graphs
• Use a spreadsheet programme
• Understand averages and calculate the mean, median, mode and range
The staff at your local learndirect centre will assess your skills. Once they have assessed your skills, they will help you to decide if this is the right course for you.
