This course follows Liam, a builder who needs to understand 2D shapes to do his job properly. It focuses on two key areas: solving problems and drawing plans.
It begins by looking at the properties of common 2D shapes such as the pentagon and the octagon. It explores what’s meant by angles, lines of symmetry, tessellation, rotation and reflection and explains how understanding these terms can make working with shapes simpler. Once you’ve got to grips with the basics, you’ll be shown how to put your new skills to use when drawing 2D plans and you’ll learn new techniques to use scale and ratio to create accurate, working scale plans.
As you move through the course, mini tests let you check that you’ve understood the learning and give you the chance to practise your new space and shape skills in realistic, everyday situations.
After finishing this course you will be able to:
• Understand the properties of 2D shapes
• Define what’s meant by angles, symmetry and tessellations
• Use a scale
• Draw plans and diagrams
• Create plans for tessellations
The staff at your local learndirect centre will assess your skills. Once they have assessed your skills, they will help you to decide if this is the right course for you.
