Whether you’re planning a new kitchen or want to make the best use of space when packing awkward shapes, a good understanding of space and shape will make the task much easier! This course helps you to solve practical problems like these by increasing your understanding of the key properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
You’ll learn about different types of 2D shapes such as squares, rectangles, polygons and quadrilaterals, and 3D shapes like cubes, cuboids, pyramids and spheres. You’ll learn what they have in common – sides, angles and lines of symmetry – and how to use this information to solve practical problems.
As you move through the course, mini tests let you check that you’ve understood the learning and give you the chance to practise your new space and shape skills in realistic, everyday situations.
After finishing this course you will be able to:
• Understand the differences between 2D and 3D shapes
• List the properties of 2D and 3D shapes
• Identify a shape from the number of sides it has
• Understand how an angle measures a turn in degrees
• Identify lines of symmetry
• Pack and stack 3D shapes to make the best use of space
The staff at your local learndirect centre will assess your skills. Once they have assessed your skills, they will help you to decide if this is the right course for you.
