Good planning skills are important if you want to get your message across clearly in a way that’s easily understood. This course will help you to develop new skills and techniques to plan and organise your writing.
You’ll be shown how lists, spider diagrams, headed notes and flow charts can be used to plan your writing. You’ll see how paragraphs help your ideas flow in a logical order in longer pieces of writing. You’ll learn how to adapt your style of writing to suit both your purpose and your audience. And you’ll be shown how to proof-read your writing to check that it makes sense and to ensure that the spelling, punctuation and grammar is accurate.
As you move through the course, mini tests let you check that you’ve understood the learning and give you the chance to practise your new writing skills in realistic, everyday situations.
After finishing this course you will be able to:
• Understand the purpose, audience and context of the writing
• Use different methods to plan your writing
• Use paragraphs, connectives and linking words to organise your writing
• Write in formal and informal language
• Know when to use features such as numbered lists, bullet points, tables and charts
• Check and correct spelling, punctuation and grammar
