Good writing means that you get your message across clearly in a way that’s easily understood. This course concentrates on new skills and techniques to help you improve the way you write.
It focuses on three key areas of writing: planning, organising and checking and correcting.
You’ll learn why it’s important to plan what you are going to write and you’ll be shown how lists, spider diagrams and notes can help you organise your ideas. You’ll be shown how to use paragraphs and headings to put across your main ideas clearly. And you’ll learn how to proof-read your work to check it makes sense and to pick up any spelling or punctuation mistakes.
As you move through the course, mini tests let you check that you’ve understood the learning and give you the chance to practise your new writing skills in realistic, everyday situations.
After finishing this course you will be able to:
• Plan what you are going to write
• Use different types of plans
• Write a ‘first draft’
• Use paragraphs and headings
• Put your ideas in a clear order
• Proof read your writing and make corrections for sense, spelling and punctuation
The staff at your local learndirect centre will assess your skills. Once they have assessed your skills, they will help you to decide if this is the right course for you.
