This three-part course is ideal if you wish to work towards the ECDL Part One qualification.
In the first part of the course, you’ll follow three learndirect courses which will give you the knowledge and skills you need for the ECDL Part One and the British Computing Society (BCS) Level 1 qualification. In Concepts of IT, you’ll explore the different parts of a typical desktop computer system, master basic skills such as switching on your computer and opening a programme and develop your understanding of common IT terminology such as hardware, software and networks. In Using Your Computer, you’ll work on your word processing skills - you’ll learn how to create and save a simple document and you’ll be shown how to make changes to a document and how to print it. In Electronic Communication, you’ll learn how to send and receive e-mails and how to search for information on the internet safely and securely.
In the second section of the course, you’ll explore the features and benefits of the ECDL and you’ll learn more about the BCS, who administer and award the ECDL in the UK, and the BCS Level 1 Certificate for IT Users. You'll take a useful "skill check" to see whether you have built the IT skills and knowledge you need to pass the assessment and to identify any areas that need more practice.
The final part of the course contains the three ECDL Module Tests, Modules 1, 2 and 7, which you need to pass to be awarded the BCS Level 1 Certificate for IT Users. This recognised qualification puts you on the path to achieving the ECDL.
